It's Sunday night here and 4:53 am there.  We have to stop and think each time we want to call the kids.  We had a new couple that got here last Wednesday with us at church today.  It was fun to watch them and hear what they thought of the meetings.  It is so funny how they go in and out of Tagalog and English.  It is hard to follow them.  And they are so funny they start answering questions and they laugh and laugh and we don't know what they are laughing about.  We just wished that we knew so we could laugh to.  We really did enjoy our meeting.  Being Fast Sunday and them bearing their testimonies.  Not one minute was wasted they got up as soon as one was finished someone got up.  Bob bore his testimony today to them it was nice. We don't always know what they are saying, but we fill of their love for us.  And we like being with them.  Elder Bush came out of Priesthood meeting saying that somehow he ended up giving the lesson.  We are loving getting to know the temple workers.  Working five days that makes a lot of people to learn to know.  We have heard many stories about them,  and we feel so blessed.  As they have so little.  They think so different than we do.  One sister asked who all lived with us in our home.  And when I said that we live alone.  She said don't your children see you?  They can't picture that.  Their children have to take care of their parents.  And the oldest child needs to make sure that the younger ones get a educations.  I meet one girl in the temple yesterday.  She only works on Saturdays.  She is a return missionary.  And told me that she almost got married in April, they had their temple date, she had temple dress.  And she said that she and her boyfriend were driving down the street and he got mad and said a BAD WORD,  a word that she did not like.  So she broke up with him.  She said that she cried and cried all the time.  She said that her Bishop and her Stake President had given her Comfort Blessings.  But as she keep talking she said that maybe he got so mad because he didn't want to take care of her adopted children.  And then told me that she had to adopt two little girls that her sister and her husband had taken out and left their little children.  They tried to find them for a long time.  But was unable to.  And when this Amy got a job.  She had to adopt them and is responsible for them.  They are her children now.  She said that they were like one and three years old when their parents left.  They are now about five and seven.  She said that she had another boyfriend and he broke up with her.  The way that they believe here and the pressure that it puts on them.  We have couples here serving in the temple.  That their children are taking care of them.  That is what the children have to do here.  That is why they couldn't understand that no one else was living with us.
It is Conference Sunday there, but we have to wait until next week to see the conference.  We did hear this morning that the age for missionaries has changed to 18 for the young men and 19 for the sisters.   We are all  going to get together next Sunday for the Sunday meetings.  And we will just go into our computers for the rest.  We have set up a day trip on Saturday.  We will be going to VILLA ESCUDERO  .  Carabao cart ride, Lunch at the Waterfalls (we have to wear water shoes)  as we will be eating over running water and they said that our feet will get wet.) Bird watching, sports, swimming, (don't think we will be doing that) Bicycles, fishing, Hiking, Videoke, Jeepney Service, and Museum.  I don't know how much of that we will be doing.  We are going on Saturday this time, because on the weekend they have performers doing the native dances and music.  So that is why we are going to watch some of the conference just at home.  We are going to have a potluck with all the missionaries on Sunday.
I think that we are finally got the time working for us now.  We were sleeping when we should be awake, and awake when we needed to be sleeping.  Wish that there was more time that would work out to talk to our children.
Like we said our apartment is small but comfortable.  And we are so lucky to be here on the temple grounds, where we have all the security.  Outside the gates is not always to safe.  The people want to shake your hands everywhere we go.  Even the small children.  We hear Sister, Elder as they shake our hands.
Those that are active love the church and are such faithful servants.  Their testimonies were so special today and even not understand every word.  We could feel their sweet spirits.
We still get pretty tired some days after working our temple shift.  As they are NINE hours.  We only worked Six hour shifts in Salt Lake.
They told us not to bring sweaters or jackets here.  But we both freeze in church.  The air conditioning is so cold.  And then we got thinking about coming home in February and laughed that our children will have to bring us coats to the airport.  We will freeze.  That's a long ways out.  This is great being able to serve.  Sometimes it is hard to believe that we are really here.

  1. They are so lucky to have you and your service is so selfless :) I felt so bad reading the story about the lady and her 2 adopted nieces-- what a sad story. I hope she finds peace and comfort. I keep telling Tony I want 2 more little girls-- So we are just about ready or drop Christiaan off at the MTC. I know what you mean about the packing, I feel so overwhelmed. We have had a beautiful week with Christiaan. The Farewell was amazing-- we have such an amazing, supportive family. Everyone was so so generous and so helpful, it meant a lot to Christiaan-- then Tuesday we went through the temple together-- again so many people came to show their support and love. It was really wonderful, we are trying to go through again before he goes to the MTC. I think he is beginning to get excited, we watched a missionary movie during the conference break.. And Christiaan in true Christiaan form was like, "Oh yeah man, that's awesome.. That's what I'll be doing in a month!" It has been a very emotional time for me, but at times like this, I feel at peace, I'm sure it's one of the many blessings we receive from the sacrifice you are Christiaan are making to serve. Christiaans patriartical blessing was very beautiful as well. He had his blessing Thursday. The patriarch said, " Christiaan I don't know you, but as I have prayed in my preparation to receive what Heavenly Father wants me to tell you, I know He wants you to know your example is far reaching, and will bless your family immensely " Craig & Robyn had just said those exact words in the temple a few days earlier, when we realized that Christiaan was the first missionary ( other than you) to serve on our side of the family-- I don't know of anyone who served on moms side -- and other than Dons kids, I don't of anyone on your side. Hopefully his example will be the start of many more missionaries. Dad, I am so grateful for your example-- I remember the many Fathers Blessings you gave me-- I wish you were to give me one now :) I appreciate so much the example you and mom were of what a good marriage was. The memories I have- have taught me to work hard on my marriage. I am so fortunate to have had that great example, I am so grateful Families Can Be Together Forever. I will try and post some pictures of Christiaan's farewell -- we had a family picture taken also, it was really fun! I know Christiasn will miss his brother and sister so much, they are so close. But I know he will be a great missionary! What's your address, I will send you and Ann a jacket--- Robyn and I are already planning on coming to pick you up--so we won't be meeting you at the airport with a jacket, at least not here! We love you, take care-- Lisa
